Marshall Sports Update

We here at Larry Marshall Sports LLC are so very proud of our former recruits who have worked hard to get where they are so we want to bring you an update on them.  For your reading pleasure please look over our recruits who have gone on to the NBA.

Lance Stephenson

After spending his first four years with the Indiana Pacers, former recruit, Lance Stephenson, 6’5” Guard just signed a three year deal worth $27 million dollars with the Charlotte Hornets (aka Michael Jordan’s team).  Here are Lance’s comment about his new team and kudos to his old team.

Stephenson provided a statement on Twitter:

“Indy, I had a great 4 years. Thank you Larry Bird, the fans, my coaches and teammates for the incredible experience. I will never forget any of you! I now have to look to the next phase of my career and the wonderful opportunity to continue to grow as a player and as a person in Charlotte! I’m excited to play for this franchise and the fans!!#buzzcity “

Alberto Ebanks, a representative of Stephenson, released a statement to The Indianapolis Star, per Candace Buckner:

“Lance is forever grateful for all the love he’s received from Pacers fans. He is especially grateful to his teammates, Frank Vogel, Herb Simon. the Pacers management and, most of all, Larry Bird. While we tried our best to come to the best possible terms for both sides there was not sufficient flexibility in the terms of the contract, particularly the length of the contract. Reports throughout the negotiation process with Indiana have often strayed from the truth but suffice it to say that it was less about the money. Lance will miss the city, the team and the mentor who helped transform him into the dynamic player he has become. He looks forward to making a strong contribution and beginning a new chapter with the Charlotte Hornets.”

Scotty Hopson
Scotty Hopson

Original Story:

Former Tennessee basketball Scotty Hopson is on the move. Hopson played 14 minutes in the first half of Cleveland’s NBA Summer League game on Friday night in Las Vegas and was informed at halftime that he had been traded to the Charlotte Hornets.

Hopson and cash considerations will go to Charlotte in exchange for center Brendan Haywood and the draft rights to forward Dwight Powell, the 45th overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.

Hopson signed a two-year deal with Cleveland on March 31, 2014 and made $1.35 million last season while appearing in two games for the Cavs, scoring one point and recording a steal and an assist in seven minutes of action. The Kentucky native is scheduled to make $1.45 million this season but the deal is non-guaranteed.

Before signing with Cleveland, Hopson played internationally in Greece (2011-12), Israel (2012-13) and Turkey (2013-14).

Haywood, who missed the entire 2013-14 season due to a stress fracture in his left foot, was awarded to the team on July 14, 2012, off waivers after the Mavericks designated him as their amnesty player. In 61 games played for Charlotte, he averaged 3.5 points and 4.8 rebounds in 19.0 minutes. [http://www.wbir.com/story/sports/2014/07/13/former-vol-scotty-hopson-traded-to-charlotte/12590291/]

Marshon Brooks
Marshon Brooks

Excerpts from Article:

Brooks shot an insane 59 percent overall in the 2014 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas allowing him to put up 11.3 points in only 15.2 minutes per game. He did not force shots or shoot off balance. Brooks just kept his shooting form steady and took what the defense gave him.

It’s as simple as that. After three years and now twice as many teams, Brooks has embraced the cliches of playing within himself and letting the game come to him. Not the most exciting Vegas revelation, but it’s one that Sacramento will find valuable when distributing its shooting guard minutes. With more amazing recruits coming down the line we will have many more working towards the NBA.  Make sure you keep watching to see all that the Larry Marshall Sports Recruits do.

College Basketball

The NCAA College Basketball Season has commenced and Marshall LLC would like to take the time to recognize some of the schools that we keep on our watch list. Those schools are Rutgers University, Marshall University, University of Tennessee, Providence College, University of North Carolina – Charlotte, Florida State, and Ohio University.

Marshall LLC stays in touch with our recruits by visiting their school to watch their games. In addition, when the recruits are available, we will train them at their schools and evaluate where they are with their performance and skill sets. Doing this helps us to determine who may be ready to go into the 2013 NBA Draft. Although the NBA Draft is over 200 days away, preparation is the key for a successful recruit to pass the test and crossover to becoming a professional athlete.

Godspeed and good luck to our recruits for a successful season.

Stars

by K. Kozla

From the time we are little stars are a part of our lives.  The early days in school where we are trying to obtain gold and silver stars to show we accomplished something to be proud of.  Skipping a few years as we age and learn to believe that wishing on the stars in the sky in the hopes of making our dreams come true.  Even as an adult we gaze upon the stars that walk amongst us like Actors, Political Figures, Sports figures and even the lesser known ones like Doctors and Nurses, Teachers and Firefighters.  We all shoot to be amongst the stars, to achieve the goals we set ahead of us.  Andrew Bynum and MarShon Brooks are no different.  Both men are making moves to show how brightly their stars can shine.

MarShon Brooks was chosen to participate in the NBA’s Rising Stars Challenge featuring rookies and second-year NBA players taking place as part of the NBA All-Star Weekend on February 24th.   Brooks is averaging 14.8 points a game placing him second among rookies.

Andrew Bynum, for his part, is going to be the going to his first All-Star game.  It was a goal he set for himself six years ago, but with perseverance, practice and drive he managed to get himself to the place he wanted to be.

Two young men both setting an example to future players and dreamers that placing high goals on yourself is something to be done.  Don’t listen to those who say you can’t.  Don’t let others talk you out of dreaming big.  Dream big, the bigger the better and never give up.  We could not be prouder of the goals they are striving for and the achievements they are making.

God Speed to those who show us we should dream and God Speed to the dreamers!

Scotty Hopson

by K. Kozla

It has been said that it takes a big man to admit their mistakes.  That when you have challenges laid out before you it is then when you show the world exactly what you are made of and for Scotty Hopson now is that time.

If you have not already read the article by Mike Griffith I suggest you take the time to stop and do so because you will get the time to stop and realize that this is a young man who was faced with adversity, but is not about to give up.

At a time when many others would just throw in the towel, pack it up and simply go home to tend his wounds Scotty is not ready to do that.  The NBA, while watching fears of a potential lockout and coming from the great dance of the draft, is still moving forward.  The teams are still wheeling and dealing and looking at getting contracts for trades and new players in place and now is the time to be capitalizing on that.

Now is not the time for giving up.

Now is not the time to throw in the towel.

Now is the time to show us what you are made of.

Godspeed Scotty.
