Recruits are Ink’n Deals Overseas…..

 

Former Tennessee Volunteer shooting guard Scotty Hopson is set to play Israeli Basketball for the 2012-13 season.  Scotty is heading there after a year of playing Greece Basketball for Kolossos Rhodes during the 2011-2012 season.

 

Our own Ricardo Ratliffe also was in the news with a deal for South Korea as you can see below:

Former Mizzou standout Ricardo Ratliffe was drafted by the Korean Basketball League.
Aug 1, 2012 – Former Mizzou basketball star Ricardo Ratliffe will be playing in South Korea this upcoming season. Ratliffe was drafted with the sixth pick by Ulsan Mobis Phoebus last week.

 

Not to forget Jordan Theodore.  He is Turkey bound to play with a team there and was featured recently in this article:

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Former Seton Hall men’s basketball star Jordan Theodore (Englewood, N.J.) signed a contract to play professionally with Antalya BSB of Turkey. The team plays in the Beko Turkish Basketball League, a league that garners some of the top talent in Europe.

Deron Williams of the Brooklyn Nets played in the Beko Turkish League during the NBA lockout, as did former NBA all-star Allen Iverson in 2010-11. Last year, former Villanova standouts Corey Fisher and Scottie Reynolds were teammates for Antalya BSB.

“I’m incredibly proud of Jordan in realizing his dream of becoming a professional basketball player,” said Seton Hall Head Coach Kevin Willard. “Antalya is getting an unquestioned leader and an excellent young point guard with a strong work ethic. We look forward to watching Jordan as his pro career matures.”

An All-BIG EAST Second Team and All-Met First Team selection, Theodore was one of the most improved players in the BIG EAST Conference last season. A starter in all 34 games for the Pirates, he ranked ninth in the conference with 16.1 points per game, second with 6.6 assists per game and fifth with an 82.4% free-throw shooting percentage. An All-BIG EAST Second Team selection, Theodore was named to the BIG EAST’s Weekly Honor Roll five times and broke Seton Hall’s 49-year old, single-season record for assists. On Feb. 21, he scored a career-high 29 points in Seton Hall’s thrilling upset of ninth-ranked Georgetown. Theodore recorded five double-doubles last season and completes his collegiate career as one of just four Pirates all-time with over 1,300 career points and 500 career assists.

Theodore joins 14 other former Pirates who played last season or are currently playing professionally overseas: John Allen (Poland), Andre Barrett (France), Donald Copeland (Puerto Rico), Marcus Cousin (Venezuela), John Garcia (Dominican Republic), Paul Gause (England), Jeremy Hazell (Venezuela), Duane Jordan (Australia), Rimas Kaukenas (Italy), Brian Laing (Israel), Jamar Nutter (Chile), Augustine Okosun (Qatar), Eniel Polynice(Mexico) and Jeff Robinson (Austria).

PAUL CROSBY SIGNS FIRST PRO DEAL IN URUGUAY

Former Mississippi Valley State University Star Paul Crosby will be headed to Montevideo, Uruguay.  Crosby offers the team an inside presence with the ability to step out and hit the mid-range jumper.  Crosby’s defense is exceptional as he held his own against Tar Heel Star Tyler Zeller during his last season at MVSU.  He averaged 13 points per game and 7 rebounds for Mississippi Valley State.  Montevideo will look to make a run for the championship this season, and team is very excited to bring in Paul.  They might have landed themselves a hidden gem as Crosby was Ranked as the #1 Power Forward coming out of High School in Michigan, averaging over 19 points per game 10 rebounds and 3 blocks.

We are all proud of our recruits and can’t wait to see what they do in the up coming year.  We send them forward with Godspeed to make us and themselves proud of the talent they are displaying.

And so it all begins…..

Marshall, LLC  just recently approached a very important milestone. On March 29, 2012 Marshall LLC  celebrated its first anniversary on the World Wide Web. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our loyal readers for your support. It is with and for you that we operate and we look forward to bringing you more news and more information in the year and years to follow.

As we continue to give you our views, news, and insight in the world of sports, we want to take this opportunity to give God the glory in all that he has done. We pray that our recruits, past, present, and future will become a beacon of light for others who are looking to follow their dreams. This dream became a reality for Larry Marshall who believes that God gave him the vision to help our youth to achieve their dreams. While reviewing the archives we found an article that had been on ESPN.GO.com and wanted to highlight some of his thoughts…..

Marshall describes his role as anything from “spiritual guide” to “professional liaison” to “trainer” to”counselor” to “researcher” who conducts a “feasibility study” to gauge a player’s future.

He claims he was chosen by God to teach his prospects how to flourish with their great gift.

Collective Bargaining & What it Means to You

A lot of talk has been going on about Collective Bargaining in sports (both Basketball and Football) and this is something that directly effects the current players, the players looking at getting into the games, the teams and more.  Let’s take a moment to stop and look at exactly what this is.

Investopedia defines corporate bargaining as:

The process of negotiating the terms of employment between an employer and a group of workers. The terms of employment are likely to include items such as conditions of employment, working conditions and other workplace rules, base pay, overtime pay, work hours, shift length, work holidays, sick leave, vacation time, retirement benefits and health care benefits.

But what does that really mean?  It means that one group of people (in this case the player associations for their respective sport) are working as a team to negotiate things for their contracts with another group of people (in this case the NBA or NFL depending on the sport we’re talking about).  Both sides work to come to an agreement that protects the players and the overall sport and without this agreement you get a lock out like the NFL is currently going through.

The NBA could be thrust into that upheaval soon as the Collective Bargaining Agreement (which is sometimes referred to as the CBA) expires 6/30/2011 and if the NBA and the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) do not come to an agreement there will be a lockout.

Merriam Webster online defines a lockout as:

the withholding of employment by an employer and the whole or partial closing of the business establishment in order to gain concessions from or resist demands of employees

So because the NFL and the NFL Players Association could not come up with a new agreement before the old agreement lapsed there was a lock out and players cannot work at their locations or work as an official team to prepare for the upcoming season.  IF the NBA and the NBPA do not come up with an agreement in the next few days they will be thrust into the exact same situation.  This not only puts the players at risk of losing that important time to get their bodies back to the place it needs to be to play safely at their most optimal condition and cohesively as a team in pre-season.

Both sides of the argument uphold that they are doing this for the good of the sport, but only time will tell if the decisions made by those in the powers that be will actually be so.  Godspeed to the decision makers and those that it impacts on now and in the future.
